ART HISTORY
Variations on famous themes are a way for the artist, as was the case for many others he admires, to express his belonging to the history of art but also his gratitude towards those who nurtured it...Titian, Michelangelo, Courbet, Chagall, Picasso, Giacometti and their fellows.
Brisson relates to a tradition in art which consists in making variations on a known theme. Like Picasso with Velazquez and Monet, Monet with Titian or Duchamp with Vinci and so on, the artist interprets in his own way, often many times, all alike and all different, a subject that touches him. or that he likes, as will be particularly the case with Titian's Venus of Urbino.
This deconstruction-reconstruction is the artist's way of expressing admiration and recognition, but also of connecting with the masters through the history of art. It's a way of saying to the old masters: I'm also at home here, with you whom I love.
